We acknowledge that we are on traditional lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the Elders of these traditional lands and, through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Footscray Community Arts Centre has once again successfully applied for Western Chances scholarships for three emerging local artists. Western Chances was founded by Terry Bracks in 2003 with the aim of helping talented young people in Melbourne’s West to realise their potential by creating financial, cultural and social opportunities.
Footscray Arts nominated Metse Hagos, Ezeldin Deng and Francis Chol of hip-hop group, The Nubian Knights, to be awarded renewals of their Western Chances scholarships. These young performers have received ongoing support from Western Chances since coming together in Footscray Arts’ hip-hop workshops program in 2006. The Nubian Knights have performed as part of many Footscray Arts projects over the years, including The GO Show, Gift of Light, Big Top Hop and ID Check.
Over the last 3 years, Western Chances scholarships have allowed these exciting young musicians and performers to purchase essential recording software and equipment, as well as receive professional development opportunities to help them continue forge careers in Melbourne’s music industry.
Footscray Arts wishes to congratulate these artists and thank Western Chances for their ongoing support.
