We acknowledge that we are on traditional lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the Elders of these traditional lands and, through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Over 100 Year 7 students from Footscray City College were offered the unique opportunity of creating music using some of the latest software and technologies when SoundHouse visited Footscray Community Arts Centre yesterday.
The Alfred Brash SoundHouse is the Arts Centre’s world class arts and technology education hub, and through our partnership with the Arts Centre we have developed a program of activities designed to increase access for community members from the western suburbs to this unique facility, and its exceptional tutors, who run a range of youth-orientated programs.
On Wednsday 24 June, Footscray Community Art Centre’s Gabriel Gallery was transformed into a temporary music technology lab as Dan West and Leo Keith from SoundHouse put students through their paces, in a series of 1 hour workshops on the basics of loop-based song construction and producing tracks using Sony Acid.
SoundHouse will return for two more visits in July - as part of our July School Holiday Program (click here for more details) and OurSpace, a special one-off workshop designed for families who would like to enter the digital age and connect through social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook (click here for more information).
Footscray Community Art Centre wishes to thank Dan, Leo and the rest of the Arts Centre crew for making these opportunities happen.
