We acknowledge that we are on traditional lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the Elders of these traditional lands and, through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Light up this winter weekend with a visit to Federation Square on Saturday 20 June, the shortest day of the year, for the opening celebration of The Gift of Light. Footscray Arts has been working with thriteen of Melbourne’s culturally diverse communities, including members of the Indigenous, Afghan, Tuvaluan & Kiribati and Burnese communitIes to create a unique event featuring light-inspired installations created by some of Melbourne’s leading artists, live performances and community offerings.
In an event jam-packed with cutltural performance, big screen content and live entertainment it is hard top pick high-lights, however, we can say that audiences will experience a Welcome to Country by respected elder Auntie Carolyn Briggs, performances by the haBiBis, Dan Sultan, Fonda La Clinica performing traditional Chilean folkloric dance, a traditional Burmese and Turkish candle dances, and even a real life taditional Indian wedding procession, and much, much more.
So, to celebrate Melbourne’s cultural diversity and see some fantastic community-inspired light installations, head to Federations Square, this Saturday 20 June.
