Jonzi D rocks tha house
Footscray Community Arts Centre was thrilled to host a masterclass for local hip hop devotees by UK hip hop guru Jonzi D. On Saturday 8 August, 16 participants were put through their paces in an inspiring and empowering workshop that covered the history of hip hop, the development of the UK scene and Jonzi’s own particular brand of hip hop theatre, as well as working on their individual skills & techniques.
Participants ranged from individual practitioners brought up through the Centre’s own hip hop and performance projects (including MC Feline, who drove all the way from Canberra with her cat for the day!), to members of the Arts Centre’s Dig Deep crew, participants from Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Fresh program and members of local outfit The Nubian Knights.
Footscray Community Arts Centre would like to thank all the participants, the British Council, our friends at ICE and, of course, Jonzi D himself for a wonderful experience. Let’s hope it’s the start of a fantastic new relationship with an awesome international artist.
