Crowd Theory Port of Melbourne, the fifth in Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC)‘s Crowd Theory series, has been installed on permanent display in the foyer of Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC)‘s offices in Collins St. The 2.4m x 1.8m photographic image by artist Simon Terrill is the result of a three month community engagement process, and was made possible through a partnership between PoMC and Footscray Arts. It creates a never-before-seen view of Melbourne’s city port, acknowledging its rich and varied history and the many people involved in making it what it is today.

In a brief unveiling ceremony on Friday 22 May, PoMC Public Relations Manager Jenny Bygrave thanked the Centre for creating this unique image and for developing an innovative project that allowed the community greater access to the Port. “As a result of a positive working relationship with FCAC, Crowd Theory [has] set a benchmark for PoMC’s future artistic and community partnerships” said Ms Bygrave.
In a true sign of partnership, PoMC CEO Stephen Bradford invited FCAC Director & CEO Jennifer Barry to share ribbon-cutting duties, and noted that “Port of Melbourne Corporation is proud to be working closely with our neighbouring communities through Footscray Community Arts Centre’s landmark Crowd Theory art project.”
