Community consultation at Footscray Train Station
Footscray Community Arts Centre has received over 50 enquiries and 16 proposals from artists. The curatorial panel which consists of Brendan Lee, Bindi Cole (Melbourne Western suburbs artists) and Jane Crawley (Acting Manager, Arts & Culture, City of Melbourne) has assessed all submissions and shortlisted 4 proposals for further development. The curatorial panel has also appointed Andrew Shoben as an external international advisor. Andrew is the founder of UK public art collective greyworld, a former lecturer at the Royal College of Arts in London and currently Professor of Public Art at Goldsmiths University London.
The shortlisted artists will now have one month to fine tune their concepts before delivering a final presentation to the curatorial panel in early November. The curatorial panel will then short list two proposals on 10 November. These proposals will be presented to the community for voting with the final decision being made by the 6th December, 2009.
