A Footscray Identity…

In August 2009, Footscray Community Arts Centre held a public forum as part of our quest for lateral thinking around art in the public landscape…
Over 60 passionate people helped us create a “Footscray” identity, and avatar of sorts…
Here’s a quick snapshot of what the collective “Footscray” might be like…?
• “Footscray” is 23 yrs old, fluid gender and of mixed ethnicities
• “Footscray” is most comfortable in street wear and prefers to have some privacy with a some sort of head coverage eg; a hajib, hoodie, cap, savers beanie etc…
• “Footscray” doesn’t drive a car and uses public transport
• “Footscray” is most likely involved in some small creative business endeavour
• “Footscray” listens to Bollywood-esque multicultural mash ups on their IPOD
• “Footscray” doesn’t watch TV, preferring to surf the net and socially network online
• “Footscray” will watch TV when the Western Bulldogs are playing as Footscray would love for the Doggies to win a premiership!
• “Footscray” usually eats a home cooked breakfast consisting of pho or porridge and definitely a decent coffee
• “Footscray” fears development, losing the fine essence of diversity within the area
• “Footscray” values the diversity of the West
“Footscray”‘s wishes are;
1) For the Western Bulldogs to win the premiership
2) For equality/harmony and sustainability to persist throughout the West
If “Footscray” was stranded on a desert island, the two things Footscray would take are;
1) a decent coffee machine
2) and FORGES!
