Multi-multicultural performance
The Melbourne Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra with Shen Pangeng
The Melbourne Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra makes its Footscray Community Arts Centre debut performing a free concert with celebrated erhu master Shen Pangeng.
Founded by Shen Pangeng in 2004, the Melbourne Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra is claimed to be the only Chinese orchestra in the world whose performers are mostly of non-Chinese background. The orchestra aims to contribute to the promotion of Chinese culture and to enrich the musical life of the local Chinese as well as all Melburnians. Currently, the orchestra has 30 performers and specialises in music that fuses eastern and western cultures.
For this special concert, the group performs an eclectic repertoire of traditional and contemporary Chinese music, as well as providing audiences with a fascinating demonstration of Chinese instruments.
