October School Holiday Arts Program
In what is fast becoming a school holiday tradition, Footscray Community Arts Centre is once again the place to bring your 6- to 12-year-old for a fun and creative school holiday experience.
The October School Holiday Arts Program features three jam-packed days of creative classes. Youngsters can release their inner artist under the guidance of puppeteer Justine Warner, singer, writer and composer Amanda Armstrong, ceramicist Royce Warden, circus performer Nikki O’Toole, Bboy Lamaroc and visual artist Darien Pullen. And if the kids really enjoy themselves, they don’t have to wait until the next holidays come around – they can enrol in one of the many exciting workshop classes held at Footscray Community Arts Centre throughout the year.
Each School Holiday Arts Program class is led by an experienced and highly skilled local artist. Here’s some more information on the October tutors:
Amanda Armstrong - Singing
Amanda Armstrong has been an actor, singer, writer, composer and active producer of Melbourne productions and ensembles for 20 years, working in film, video, theatre and festivals. She has a particular interest in the voice and creates works for children focussing on make believe modern characters singing in unusual places.
Royce Warden - Ceramics
A graduate of NMIT Graduate Diploma Visual Arts – Ceramics Royce Warden has worked at Footscray Community Arts Centre as an Artist In Residence, teaching ArtLife (our fulltime disability program), Create - Children’s Art Ceramic program, and creating ceramic murals and totem poles with Totem (Victoria University Youth Program). He has also undertaken a variety of teaching roles working with youth in Melbourne.
Justine Warner - Puppets
Justine Warner is a Melbourne-based puppeteer and performer who has had extensive experience working in holiday programs as a carer and coordinator. After completing both her Feldenkrais Practitioner Training and a BA in Performance Studies, she combined these modalities with her love of working with children to create a puppet called Piccolo. Justine is currently working on a puppetry production that is set to tour primary schools later this year.
Bboy Lamaroc
Anthony Lawang aka Bboy Lamaroc is a member of the Fresh Sox crew/Zulu Kings. A practitioner of hip-hop and member of the hip-hop organisation Djindi Worabak (Australian chapter of the Universal Zulu Nation), Lamaroc is best known for winning Number 1 Australian Bboy in 2003 at the Australian Battle Of The Year Eliminations.
Nikki O’Toole - Circus
Nikki O’Toole trained at Circus Space in London, trained and taught at Circus Oz, and has performed freelance in double trapeze and acrobatics. She has a background in dance and theatre and has taught and worked in productions with Flying Fruit Fly Circus and Little Big Top. She currently teaches Footscray Flyers at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
Darien Pullen - Visual Arts
Local Footscray visual artist Darien Pullen has tutored at Footscray Arts for 14 years. He has shown his work nationally and is represented by Brian Moore Gallery in Sydney.
