October School Holiday Program

January School Holiday Arts Program

It all began last January and it has been such a hit that it’s been going every school holiday break since – Footscray Community Arts Centre’s School Holiday ARTS Program for 6- to 12-year-olds. Now it’s on again, this time from Tuesday 22 – Thursday 24 January.

Our School Holiday ARTS Program has been a huge success throughout 2007 with a range of youngsters learning some exciting creative skills over three days of classes. Twelve-year-old Matthew Litchen was one very happy participant who wanted to share his great experience. “We did ceramics where we designed and made a dragon. We did hip-hop and learnt some cool moves. We also did puppets and I did a cool puppet play. We made amazing comics and incredible pictures. To sum it all up the holiday program was brilliant and I will certainly come again!”

Seven-year-old Charles Goldstraw was also a fan, saying, “It was great, the 2nd best place I went to this year – it was so fun. I loved the comics and hip-hop but loved the puppets best. I want to go back next time.”

Parents of participants have also been happy to share their thoughts on the experience.

“My son loved the hands-on creativity and thank you for following up on the copy of the DVD of their work, every child loves to see the results of their efforts.” Lynette McDougall

“It was great to find a creative holiday program in the West.” Inge Turpie

“Fantastic, engaging and fun.” Stephen Weller

“Children loved being treated as ‘artists’ and being given the opportunity to meet adult artists.” Kathleen Alleaume-Ross

Children can once again be part of the magic and mayhem in classes taken by some of the best artists in Melbourne, including puppeteer Justine Warner, singer, writer and composer Amanda Armstrong, ceramicist Royce Warden, circus performer Staja Hobsbawn, visual artist Darien Pullen and musicians from The Mighty buZZniks who will create a performance with participants for their free concert on Sunday 27 January.
