Acoustic Reggae Workshop with Natty Wailer has been posponed
Natty Wailer will conduct an acoustic reggae workshop as part of the regular Footscray Arts workshop program on Sunday 4 March.
Songwriter, philosopher, instrumentalist and singer Natty Wailer met Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1972, a couple of months after he graduated from high school. That same year he began to rehearse with the legendary group as a studio session musician and eventually became a regular member, recording albums and touring. He remains driven by a passion for reggae music and culture and continues to keep the Bob Marley dream alive performing and conducting workshops around the world.
After his hugely successful workshop at Footscray Community Arts Centre last year and his FREE performance with his band Natty Wailer and the Reggae Vibes last month, reggae master Natty Wailer returns to lead a workshop exploring the history of Caribbean music and culture. Participants will be taken on a journey through Jamaica’s music scene from calypso and ska to reggae and the birth of dancehall music. Through an exploration of the rise of Rastafarianism and the politics of reggae music, participants will learn the musical styles, play acoustic reggae and develop lyrics and melodies. The three-hour workshop session concludes with a FREE open jam with Natty Wailer – and anyone’s welcome to come along.
The concert and acoustic reggae workshop with Natty Wailer offer lovers of reggae music a chance to listen and learn from a true legend.
