Learn from the Experts
Throughout the year Footscray Community Arts Centre will be offering budding artists of all types the chance to work with leading artists in their field in a series of workshop intensives. Why not get some hands-on experience and Learn from the Experts.

Grrilla Step
Grrilla Step are one of the hottest new acts in Australia and bring together artists with talents ranging from New Guinean tribal log drumming, DJing, VJing, Indigenous and Polynesian traditional dance and the hip-hop dance style krumping. As part of our Learn from the Experts program, Grrilla Step will present a krumping workshop that will show that krump is much more than just a dance.
This intensive workshop includes an introduction to scratching and turntable skills, hip-hop music appreciation and of course same basic krumping moves.
With a creative core that includes DJ Dexter (who has previously worked with The Avalanches and Chemical Brothers and who has toured with the likes of Pubic Enemy and the Beastie Boys), and Airie Ingram (Drum Drum) amongst others, Grrilla Step will be developing their own material as well as working in community contexts through workshops, performance and mentoring during their time as an Incubator group at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
If you want to be hip-hop happening, then don’t miss this chance to work with some of the best in the biz at this Learn from the Experts intensive workshop.

Dog Day Afternoon
Join artist and tutor Flossie Peitsch on Sunday 6 July for Dog Day Afternoon, a portraiture class with a doggone difference.
In this dog portraiture workshop, canine-loving participants will learn all the skills necessary to forever immortalise their precious pooch in an artwork. Bring along a favourite shot of your furry friend, study their unique structure and character, and learn how to draw portraits from a photograph. You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials, such as charcoal, pencils and pastels, to explore the possibilities of dog portraiture drawing on paper. Participants are encouraged to bring along a good quality photograph or image of their dog to use as their ‘model’.
The workshop will conclude with a Dog Day Afternoon exhibition (the Dog Archibald of the West!) and you’re welcome to bring your four-legged friend along to admire (or sniff) your finished creation. There’ll even be dog biscuits for our special guests.
This workshop is limited to 12 participants.
