Footscray Arts in association with the Western Bulldogs present
The GO Show
Get on your bike or jump on board our bus for a whirlwind tour of the West with The GO Show. Our tour guides will take you to iconic locations around Footscray to show you this city and its people as never before.
As part of The GO Show visit Footscray Community Arts Centre, Maddern Square and Whitten Oval, spiritual home of the Western Bulldogs, and watch a FREE live performance event unfold in an ever-changing, suburb-sized performance space.
Your tour guides are local Taunwurrung elder Larry Walsh, Blackbird skipper Peter Somerville and local sports writer Steven Milne. Join them on The GO Show bus or tag along with our bike convoy for a very different look at life and performance in Footscray.
Experience a taste of the West and what the people there are passionate about with The GO Show. There’ll be ballroom dancing, tai chi and karaoke from the Chinese Happy Age Association, as well as Vovinam, a form of Vietnamese martial arts, traditional ceremonial dance and tai chi. Look out for flash mobs from Victoria University performance students, check out an umpiring demonstration from the Western Region Football League Umpires Association and discover sound and art installations from our artists in residence. Rock out to a set by The Hackketts, our resident cover band, enjoy community choral singing from our Voice workshop or get moving and grooving to hip-hop from African-Australian group Nubian Life. There’s an incredible range of performances you’ll see as part of The GO Show that have all been developed by local residents and artists with the support of Footscray Arts.
GO is all about the connections between art and sport. We’re out to show that they’re not that different really. They both require passion, participation and performance and these are the key themes explored by the GO project. Throughout 2006 a team of artists from Footscray Arts including Rebecca Hilton, Emile Zile, Tamsin Sharp, Martyn Coutts, Cassandra Tytler, Ingrid Voorendt, John Howard and Lamaroc have been working together with interested participants to explore what people are passionate about and what they like to participate in. Earlier in the year we invited you to get involved with GO and throughout September if you were in the Nicholson Street Mall you could not have missed our red, white and blue shipping container where Bulldogs fans and enemies alike shared their Doggies memories or their stories of life in the West. The result of this project turns everyday activities into a unique performance experience – The GO Show. Don’t miss it.
