Zhiva Voda Concert + Workshop: Your ticket to Bulgaria

Zhiva voda means 'living, magic waters'

Footscray Arts and Multicultural Arts Victoria present a stunning concert that will transport you to Bulgaria for the night. Experience the spirited, haunting sounds of the Bulgarian vocal tradition, expressed with powerful soaring solos and spine-tingling harmonies. Vocals are complemented by the raw sounds of clarinet, saxophone and two traditional instruments - the gaida (Bulgarian bagpipe) and the gadulka (a violin-type instrument). This concert features Reni Pavlova-Bojilov (vocalist), Ann Bermingham (vocalist, vocal arranger) and George Gaydov (instrumentalist).

Zhiva Voda is a Kultour event that is produced by BEMAC.

In addition, on the day before the concert, Footscray Arts is presenting a free workshop to introduce participants to aspects of Bulgaria's musical tradition - songs, dances and instruments. The primary focus will be on singing, but participants will also learn at least one dance. George Gaydov will demonstrate and speak about the traditional instruments that he plays.

The Zhiva Voda workshop is at Footscray Arts on Thursday 13 October, from 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm.

This workshop is free but bookings are essential.

The Zhiva Voda concert is at Footscray Arts on Friday 14 October at 7.30pm.
