Superstitious – a Citz project
Citz is an innovative new Footscray Community Arts Centre project exploring themes that resonate across generations and cultures.
During the first phase of Citz, Artist In Residence Candy Bowers (best known as one half of the hip-hop comedy duo Sista She) has brought together members of local senior citizens groups and clubs from diverse cultural backgrounds and young women from the hip-hop dance group, Jungle City. Together these two groups from very different backgrounds have been exploring themes of intergenerational connection.
Now arts lovers have a chance to see the results of this creative development in the new hip-hop theatre piece Superstitious, which opens on Friday 30 May. This exciting free performance uses Footscray as a backdrop to explore the theme of superstition through stories of migration. A theatre work featuring senior citizens and young hip-hop dancers is not something you’ll see everyday, so don’t miss Superstitious.
The second phase of Citz takes place later in the year, with senior citizens groups and members of Jungle City undertaking workshops with dancer and choreographer Bec Reid to create another exciting performance outcome.
Citz is part of the realisation of the strategic arts and cultural development partnership between Footscray Community Arts Centre, Maribyrnong City Council and Victoria University known as Communities. Create. Culture.
