We acknowledge that we are on traditional lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the Elders of these traditional lands and, through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Koorie women nurtured children and families with resistance, resilience and strength through suffering and loss to create something new. Government rations of flour, sugar and tea took on significance as core food sources to supplement the survival of Koorie people through the mission days.
Set within the “bushhhhh” – see, feel and smell flour, sugar, tea and remember a place, not that long ago, where survival meant making do with what you had. Flour, sugar and tea remain with Koories today, in memories, stories and recipes.
