We acknowledge that we are on traditional lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the Elders of these traditional lands and, through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The animation workshop have been developing a pilot for a short surreal comedy show called ‘All of You’. The show is made up of short segments of animation, puppetry and video created by Artlife participants in collaboration with tutors Lindsay Cox and Sally Blenheim. Themes for the episodes are based on the organs of the human body and the emotions, sayings and cultural associations attached to them. The theme for the pilot is ‘The Heart’. We are creating the show in short segments so each of these segments may also be viewed as a separate work. Below is an illustration of some of our work.
Site Grinders has been inspired by the desire to connect with like minded others, to share our experiences and passion for the arts. The Site Grinders are a community of artists with disabilities, our friends and colleagues. We are storytellers, theatre makers, visual artists, animators, sonic artists, we like the camera – being in front of it and behind it and we want to share our enjoyment for these art forms with you. This is for all of us. Our blog name has been inspired by the resonating grinds that emerge from within the Digital Hub at Footscray Community Arts Centre………

INSULT CHOIR
The choir is a cheeky revolution against the way people with disabilities are often represented as being just ‘nice’ or ‘pleasant’. We’re hoping to use our charisma to challenge audiences and push against this ‘noble savage esque’ myth by presenting ourselves as ‘people’ first. Just like everyone else we get angry, we can be arseholes, hurt and beautifully ugly. The Chaotic Order is a celebration of humanity in all its glories and foibles.
Today was the ‘Insult Choir’s’ first rehearsal.
We gathered together to talk ideas about insults….
what insults us?
when do we feel insulted?
when do we insult?
we collected what we thought, to be the most offensive and provocative
the insults that really got us in our guts
we narrowed them down to 12.
This blog lists only some of these insults
- you’re not normal
- you loser
- you old bag
- you stink
- you’re so boring
- hypocrite
- short arse baldy
- you’re too lazy
We talked about swearing and that in order for an insult to be effective it doesn’t ALWAYS have to have swear words, for example; “you’re not normal” is far more potent than “you short arse baldy”.
We also talked about the importance of ‘context’, gathering together as a performance and insulting is very different to just going out and hurling insults at people randomly -
as performers and mature adults we have a responsibility to keep it ‘in house’ and a part of our performance.
